Wheat Street Junction

Update 9 July 2026

Wheat Streets works are progressing well and are anticipated to be completed by Winter 2026-27.

A second phase will be carried as part of the Leicester Road Gyratory Scheme, and updates regarding this will be shared in due course.

We are pleased to report that over the past few weeks; the following works have commenced and continue to be undertaken:

Services diversionary works, for example electricity, water and telecoms
Widening on Wheat Street (east of Vicarage Street)
Excavation for rain garden drainage systems
Installation of drainage infrastructure on northern and southern Vicarage Street
CBR testing on Wheat Street (west of Vicarage Street)

The works are progressing in line with the programme.

Upcoming Works

Over the coming month of July 2026, the following works are expected to take place.

Continued installation of drainage infrastructure
Continued Statutory Undertaker diversion works
Commencement of earthworks on Wheat Street (west of Vicarage Street)
Commencement of earthworks at the junction of Justice Walk and Wheat Street

Warwickshire County Council continue to work collaboratively with the demolition team working on Justice Walk, ensuring minimal disruptions in Nuneaton. For more information, please check our noticeboards in the library and on Justice Walk, or check the Vicarage Street webpage.

Leicester Road

All planning application documentation has been submitted for the Leicester Road project, and we are currently awaiting completion of the statutory consultation phase before we will receive a decision from planning officers, anticipated Summer 2026.

We will keep you informed of the progress as we receive more information.
