Update 27 August 2026 - Justice Walk Car Park full closure

Work on the Wheat Street site is progressing well and according to the programme, and our contractors anticipate that the works will be completed in winter 2026/27 as planned.

In our February 2026 update, we advised that ‘As part of these works and future development of the site the Justice Walk Car Park will be closed at the start of work, and alternative car parking is available at Grayson Place, at the Ropewalk Shopping Centre and at Harefield Road Car Park.’

Further to this, in our April 2026 update we advised that ‘Justice Walk Car Park will be closed except for Blue Badge holders. If required, the ticket machine will remain operational.’ This closure would be in place from 5 May 2026.

An additional contractor will now be moving into the area to work on the new library building. As there will be additional plant movements in the area the continued use of the Blue Badge Holder bays by the public would create an unsafe environment for both members of the public and the contractor.

Therefore, for the safety of all involved, the Blue Badge Holder bays in Justice Walk car park will close in full as of 1 September 2026.

We would kindly ask that those who require Blue Badge Holder spaces use the alternate parking facilities available at Grayson Place, Ropewalk Shopping Centre or Harefield Road Car Park, as well as on-street spaces available in nearby Bond Gate and Coton Road.

We understand, and apologise for, the inconvenience this is likely to cause, and are committed to working closely with our contractors to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum. The safety of members of the public and our contractors is our top priority, and please be assured that the decision to close the Blue Badge Holder spaces has not been taken lightly.

Wheat Street Junction

Update 18 August 2026

Wheat Streets works are progressing well and are anticipated to be completed by Winter 2026-27.

A second phase will be carried as part of the Leicester Road Gyratory Scheme, and updates regarding this will be shared in due course.

We are pleased to report that over the past few weeks; the following works have commenced and continue to be undertaken:

Services diversionary works, for example electricity, water and telecommunications.
Installation of drainage infrastructure on northern and southern Vicarage Street, including the rain garden drainage system.
Temporary works to facilitate the reconstruction of Justice Walk and Wheat Street (west of Vicarage Street).
Excavation for reconstruction of Justice Walk, Wheat Street (west of Vicarage Street) and southern Vicarage Street.
Pavement foundation reconstruction on Justice Walk, Wheat Street (east and west of Vicarage Street) and a section of southern Vicarage Street.

The works are progressing in line with the Programme.

Continued installation of drainage infrastructure
Continued reconstruction works on Justice Walk
Commencement of kerb installation sitewide
Commencement of traffic signal work

Leicester Road

All planning application documentation has been submitted for the Leicester Road project, and we are currently awaiting completion of the statutory consultation phase before we will receive a decision from planning officers, anticipated Summer 2026.
