Transforming Nuneaton highway improvements

Update 6 October 2026

Wheat Street works are progressing well and are anticipated to be completed by Winter 2026-27.

We are pleased to report that good progress has been made across the scheme over the past four weeks. The following key activities have commenced and continue to be undertaken:

Road surfacing of Justice Walk
Installation of road and footway asphalt base material on Wheat Street (west of Vicarage Street) and southern Vicarage Street
Completion of drainage infrastructure installation
Commencement of footway work in Wheat Street (east of Vicarage Street)
Commencement of traffic signal equipment installation

Upcoming works

Over the coming month of October 2026, the following works are expected to take place:

Continuation traffic signal infrastructure installation sitewide
Continuation of signpost foundation installation sitewide
Continuation of footway works on Wheat Street (east of Vicarage Street) and northwest Vicarage Street

Leicester Road – planning application update

WCC Planning Officer has received comments from consultees for the planning application, and these are currently under review.

The application will then be considered under the new UK government framework for England known as National Delegation and may be presented to the Planning Regulatory committee in due course.

We anticipate being in a position to have the planning application decision by Winter 2026/27.
