Update 25 February 2026

Leicester Road Gyratory

WCC is planning to upgrade the Leicester Road gyratory to a new, signal-controlled roundabout. This change is designed to make traffic move more smoothly around the Nuneaton ring road.

Due to the complexity and location of this project, WCC requires to undertake additional stages before work can start on-site.

The planning application is currently out for public feedback; we expect a decision by June 2026 and hope to start the final design work shortly after.

Leicester road gyratory plan

Wheat Street Junction

WCC is planning to transform the Wheat Street and Vicarage Street junction into a four-arm layout, making it easier to access the ring road from Bond Gate. This project is part of a first stage to deliver Leicester Road Gyratory. WCC will be building this project in two stages to keep costs down.

Design is complete, and a contractor agreement is being finalized. You can expect on-site works to start in early spring 2026.

As part of these works and future development of the site the Justice Walk Car Park will be closed at the start of work, alternative car parking is available at Grayson Place, at the Ropewalk Shopping Centre and at Harefield Road Car Park.
