EHC needs assessment and EHC plans

An EHC Plan is an Educational Health and Care Plan. It is a legal document which details the child/young person’s needs an how they will be supported. Most children and young people with SEND are supported in schools without an ECH Plan and you do not need one to receive additional support.

An EHC Plan formalises the support your child/young person will receive. EHC Plans are for complex, long term needs when a child/young person’s progress suggest they need more targeted support.
