What types of help and support can I access through my child’s school?

If your child or young person requires extra support due to their SEND, there is a range of extra support nurseries, schools or colleges can put in place including

  • a special learning programme
  • targeted interventions
  • working in a smaller group
  • help to take part in class activities
  • help to communicate with other children
  • a referral to external professionals.

This help may be provided through:

A Graduated Approach and SEND Support (this will link to multipage 1 on the navigation item below when created)this is the first step to ensure you child has the right support is put in place that may be ‘additional to’ or ‘different from’ what other children receive. For many children, this is enough support to meet their needs.

or

An Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) – this may be appropriate if your child has complex, long term needs and needs extra help or more targeted support over and above what the schools or settings can ordinarily provide.
