What is a SENDCO?

Every education setting has a designated Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCO / SENCO) who oversees the support for children and young people with special educational needs. They make sure children and young people get the help and support they need.

Children and young people who face challenges in their setting may require different strategies to support their learning needs - this is called SEN Support. The SENDCO can help you understand what your child may need and arrange planned SEN support to be put in place. They will be the person who liaises with you, the teachers and teaching assistants about your child’s needs.
