Race day
Stage 7, Friday 13 September, Warwick to Burton Dassett Hills Country Park
The 187 kilometre stage will pass through the heart of the county. Starting at Warwick Racecourse the peloton heads north through North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth before it heads south through Rugby Borough and into Stratford Upon Avon district.
The stage winds its way through Warwickshire’s countryside, taking the riders alongside a number of
local landmarks including Warwick Castle, Kenilworth Castle, the National Cycling Memorial in Meriden, and through the world-class University of Warwick campus.
The peloton will ride through the historic market town of Atherstone before heading towards Bedworth, Bulkington, Brinklow and Rugby.
The route reaches a close by climbing to the highest points in Warwickshire at Edge Hill and finishes on Burton Dassett Hills Country Park.
Race Start – Warwick
The race is due to start at 11:00am but crowds will be gathering from 8:30am. For more information on where to watch the start of the race see the Warwick District Council website.
Race Finish – Burton Dassett Hills Country Park
As the race leaves Edge Hill there will be 10 minutes till the riders start climbing Burton Dassett for the first time. The riders will then complete 2 laps of the 12km finishing circuit, so why not make a day of it and come and cheer the cyclists on!
There will be plenty to entertain you up on Burton Dassett, with food and drink stalls a large screen so you can watch the race live. You can also bring your picnic up and watch the race unfold across the county.
The roads up to Burton Dassett and across Burton Dassett will be closed on 13 th September and more details on these closures will be available shortly. This is to facilitate the large amount of finish infrastructure and safety of the visiting public.
Come out and line the route, wave flags and cheer the cyclists on. If you stand anywhere along the route then you will get a great view of the race!
The OVO Tour of Britain is supported by the National Police Escort team, who close the roads 30 minutes ahead of the peloton racing through the district. These closures hold up traffic for a minimal amount of time, but ensure the safe arrival of the cyclists into Burton Dassett Hill Country Park. Please be mindful of this when planning your travel on the day.
Expect delays to buses and taxis. Also if you are behind the peloton, the speed will be reduced to
about 20mph with no scope to overtake, so please be patient.
Riders and teams
Twenty of the world’s top male cycling teams, made up of 120 of the world’s best male cyclists, will take part when the OVO Energy Tour of Britain comes to Warwickshire.

- Burton Dassett Country Park – There will be a Park and Ride Scheme from The British Motor Museum. This will run from 10:30-14:00 and will stop while the race is in its final stages. The Park and Ride buses will then start returning visitors back to The British Motor Museum from 16:30 until approximately 18:00 when passengers have left Burton Dassett Country Park.
