The aim of the scheme is to:

  • Improve connectivity and enhance the experience for pedestrians, cyclists and business users accessing the St Johns area and wider town centre, including provision of cycle parking.
  • Improve the attractiveness of the location as a key gateway to the town, material enhancements outside the retail/commercial area while preserving as many parking bays as possible.
  • Upgrade the existing traffic signal junction and provide essential maintenance to the carriageway on all arms, particularly to Coventry Rd and St Johns.

The footway works directly outside the business frontages have been completed as well as the tarmac up to the Paddocks. St Johns Junction, Warwick – reminder of permanent removal of limited waiting bays in front of your business from 5 January 2026

As per the Traffic Regulation Order which is in place as part of the current works in and around St Johns, we are continuing the work to permanently remove the limited waiting bays between Coffee Junction and Castle Balti on Monday 5 January 2026. This work is almost finished.

St john s construction plan 2

The next phase will commence in week commencing Monday 02 February and will focus on the footway on Priory road from where it meets Cross Street to where it joins St Johns.

This footway will be closed during the work and a pedestrian diversion will take pedestrians down Cross Street and onto Smith Street. The diversion will then use the crossing on Priory road to bring pedestrians back to St Johns shops. The newly paved area in front of the shops between Coffee Junction and Castle Balti will then be open for pedestrians to continue past the shops and to the central St Johns area. Access to all of those shops open for business will be maintained at all times.
