Schemes in development

St Johns junction

St Johns junction is a key gateway to the town and the highways scheme will enhance the public realm outside the retail/commercial area through improving the service road, rationalising waiting times, upgrading existing parking to meet current standards, reducing street clutter and installing new signage.  Cycle and pedestrian connectivity will also be improved and dedicated cycle parking provided.

Engagement on the St Johns junction scheme took place in late 2022/early 2023 and some minor changes to the proposals were made in response to the comments received.

Results of the consultation via Ask Warwickshire

Statutory consultation for the proposed scheme was carried out in June through to August 2024.  The St Johns junction report which addressed the objections received in response to this consultation was signed off by the Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning on Friday 14th March 2025.  The report was based on a revised design which was produced following a review of the objections received and included the withdrawing of some of the Traffic Regulation Orders and notices.  The changes included a) the three pedestrian crossings on Priory Road/Smith Street/St Nicholas Church Street to remain as existing and not to be signalised, b) the right hand turn from Smith Street onto St Nicholas Church Street to remain as existing and not to have a right hand turn ban, and c) the right hand turn from the south of the service road onto St Johns junction towards Warwick to remain as existing and to not have a right hand turn ban.
