Section 1 - Leamington Spa town centre to Bericote roundabout
Section 1a - Leamington Spa, Clarendon Avenue to A452 Kenilworth Road boundary
K2L section 1a
Section 1a was officially opened in April 2024. It is made up of:
- On road section using the lightly trafficked Beauchamp Road and Binswood Avenue to travel between Clarendon Avenue and Kenilworth Road.
- Improved crossing of Clarendon Avenue to connect with existing infrastructure on Tavistock Street.
- New cycle parking stands at the junction of Clarendon Avenue and Beauchamp Road.
- Toucan crossing to cross cyclists to/from the eastern side of Kenilworth Road.
- Binswood Avenue to Cloister Crofts - off carriageway segregated three metre wide two-way cycle track and two metre wide footway. Included upgrading the traffic signals at the busy Lillington Avenue junction.
- Cloister Crofts to edge of Leamington Spa - off carriageway three metre wide shared use footway/cycleway.
- Priority side road crossings including at Cloister Crofts reinforce that cyclists and pedestrians have priority over turning vehicles. A short film has been produced to provide guidance on how to use the priority crossing:
Section 1b - A452 Kenilworth Road - edge of Leamington Spa to Blackdown roundabout
Design proposal

Update – 18 February 2026
Advanced vegetation clearance works are due to commence on 19/02/26 to help facilitate the main works on K2L Section 1b and are estimated to last for two weeks. The vegetation clearance has been kept to a minimum and has been agreed following consultation with the County Council's Forestry and Ecology Teams. The design solution for Section 1b has been carefully developed to ensure that the impact on trees is minimised. The works will be on the eastern verge of the A452. Two-way traffic signals will be in place to control the traffic and ensure the safety of all during the works. The works will be carried out in sections to help reduce disruption.
The County Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause and will do its best to keep the disruption to a minimum. Live information on traffic and roadworks can be found at one.network.
Design work on the main Section1b works is progressing well along with the land negotiations. The works are estimated to commence on site in summer 2026.
Next steps
- Finalise engineering solution for a retaining structure required south of Blackdown roundabout to enable the existing footway to be widened through the cutting whilst retaining as many trees as possible.
- Confirm third party land requirements.
Timescale
Our outline programme is to complete construction in late 2026.
