Key dates and activities - children without an EHCP
The following information shows the key dates when preparing your child to move from childminders and nursery into reception and infant to junior schools where they are separate.
Autumn term the year before starting in reception or junior school
1 November application opens
Admissions via the parent and carers portal opens for applications for reception and junior schools for children joining a junior school in year 3 (ages six to seven).
15 January deadline for applications
Deadline extended until 1 February for people moving house.
Spring term
17 April
National offer day for all reception and junior (year 3) applications. You have until 2 May to accept your offer.
Summer term
May
The pre-school feeder setting (childminders and nurseries) completes the pupil transition form and forwards it to the receiving school or setting.
June
Receiving primary schools review forms received from the feeder setting to discuss the child's transition opportunities.
Parents/carers of pupils transferring to the primary school join the discussion with one or both of the SENCos.
During July
Schools organise a transition evening/open day for children and young people and their parents/carers to support successful transitions.
Pass on any information/folders to new school, such as the child’s SEND file or safeguarding file.
