Top tips from IMPACT (Young People's Forum for SEND)

Here are their top tips for your first steps:
- Involving young people in decisions and giving them choices on how to share their views creates the right space and shows from the start that you value what they say.
- It helps when young people understand what is happening. Take time to explain the purpose of meetings and assessments in a way that can be understood. Building trust is important.
- Making plans with young people means the support they get is more targeted and effective and can help them feel more motivated.
- Helping a child or young person feel involved, respected, and understood provides better insights and is helpful for everyone supporting them. When children and young People are given choices, it shows you’re listening, and that is extremely important!
