The current proposal as outlined in the recent staff presentation programme about surge and part time shifts details that training will be completed within the 6 positive hours conducted (2 evening shifts in 8 days), alongside 92 additional paid hours for online learning and off duty mandatory training courses.
What about for specialist skills such as flying the drone?
Specialist skill sets will be a part of the consideration once we know what the final proposal looks like.
What considerations have been given to drill, welfare and maintaining moral?
The Fire Leadership Team are continually seeking to understand the views of our people during the consulation being mindful of the affect on wellbeing and morale, and adjusting its approach where necessary.

Will part-time firefighters be expected to attend a full time 13 week course to do a part-time roll? Is this realistic or sustainable?
This is yet to be determined, but the level of training required will be appropriate to the role that they are expected to carry out.
Will there be additional hoops to jump through for those transitioning from part-time to wholetime?
There will need to be considerations to a process for those desiring to move from a part time to whole time role. The details of this will need to be developed a part of the Resource to Risk project.
