Teaching Assistant Retention
Research carried out by Portsmouth Education Partnership found that TAs valued a structured framework to support their professional growth and wellbeing. This framework covers seven key areas:
- Recognition: Foster a culture that values and celebrates TA contributions.
- Professional development: Offer ongoing training and clear career pathways.
- Wellbeing: Prioritise mental health and work-life balance.
- Communication: Encourage open dialogue between TAs, teachers, and leadership.
- Support and resources: Ensure TAs have the tools they need to succeed.
- Workload management: Monitor and adjust workloads to prevent burnout.
- Career progression: Provide opportunities for advancement and specialisation.
The Teaching Assistant Charter covers these areas in more detail.
