Teaching Assistant Retention

Research carried out by Portsmouth Education Partnership found that TAs valued a structured framework to support their professional growth and wellbeing. This framework covers seven key areas:

  • Recognition: Foster a culture that values and celebrates TA contributions.
  • Professional development: Offer ongoing training and clear career pathways.
  • Wellbeing: Prioritise mental health and work-life balance.
  • Communication: Encourage open dialogue between TAs, teachers, and leadership.
  • Support and resources: Ensure TAs have the tools they need to succeed.
  • Workload management: Monitor and adjust workloads to prevent burnout.
  • Career progression: Provide opportunities for advancement and specialisation.

Their Teaching Assistant Charter covers these areas in more detail.
