Safe and Active Travel in Warwickshire

Warwickshire’s Road Safety Education Team are excited to announce the launch of its brand new Safe and Active Travel Awards Programme which will see the Warwickshire Road Safety Club and the Safe and Active Travel Awards Programme become one package, with member schools actively participating in both programmes under the new title ‘Safe and Active Schools’:

  • Safe – Road Safety Education
  • Active – Active Travel Award

Warwickshire ‘Safe and Active Schools’ will be offered free of charge to all Warwickshire primary schools, including independent schools.

Safe and Active member schools will receive:

  • A tailored road safety session, either in class or online, for every year group from Reception through to Year 6
  • An additional digital resource each term linking with National Road Safety campaigns. These resources will combine road safety education messages with active travel promotion.
  • A digital animation each term
  • Access to Warwickshire County Council’s popular Cars and Kids Don’t Mix campaign
  • Access to Warwickshire County council’s Cars Idling campaign.

Schools will also be supported by dedicated Safe and Active Travel officers to decrease the number of car journeys being made at school drop off and pick up; encourage walking, cycling, scooting and other sustainable travel options; educate its school community about the environmental and health benefits of being active on our journeys and schools will be given guidance on how to promote active travel to its school and wider community.
