Drive for life - what is a Mature Driver?

Age should not be a barrier to driving but as we get older and drive in later life, it is important to recognise the need to be more aware of both our personal safety and our responsibility to other road users.

Warwickshire include any driver from the age of 65 years old as a mature driver, although other counties do differ. However, everyone is different, and some changes can start to happen from the age of 50 years old.

More mature drivers have a wealth of wisdom and driving experience but, as we get older, a decline in our reaction times, as well as a decline in our cognitive and physical health and fitness can affect our driving. Unfortunately, we also bounce back less easily from any injuries sustained in collisions, due to our increased fragility.

The advice and information in the following pages aims to help you to drive safely for longer and to make the right personal choice for a positive driving future.
