Since April 2013, Warwickshire County Council has been responsible for the delivery of the Warwickshire Public Health Service. Public health leads on improving and protecting the health of the local population, which includes commissioning a number of key services including:

There is an obligation on planning authorities to work with public health leaders to ensure that decisions are made to improve the health and wellbeing of communities. To achieve this, we are working closely with district and borough councils and other partners to make health a central part of planning decisions.

The places where we are born, live and grow have a significant impact on health and wellbeing and it is important that we also focus on the wider factors that shape our health. Public health works with other service areas on improving health and wellbeing benefits. For example:

We are required to assure that relevant organisations have appropriate plans in place to protect the health of the population. This is covered by the Coventry and Warwickshire Health Protection Strategy 2025-2030, which sets out how partners in Coventry and Warwickshire will work together with our communities and businesses to protect the health of the local population. The focus is on communicable disease prevention and control, emergency planning, environmental hazards, screening and immunisation.

The public health team also works closely with NHS colleagues particularly in the Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and our acute hospital settings to ensure that local health services closely match the health needs of local people and to provide advice to them.

The ICB is responsible for the delivery of primary care services, including general practice, across Warwickshire. Please contact the Coventry and Warwickshire ICB for contribution enquiries related to primary care.
