We are responsible for delivering and maintaining much of the large-scale infrastructure that Warwickshire's residents and businesses require, such as highways and schools.

Local services are provided to each part of the county by Warwickshire’s five district and borough councils:

District and borough councils provide services such as:

  • waste collection
  • leisure facilities
  • affordable housing

They act as the local planning authority which means that they are responsible for determining most planning applications.

We work closely with the district and borough councils to identify the infrastructure needed to support growth as set out in local plans. By working with district and borough councils we advise on how development will impact existing infrastructure as well as recommending possible mitigation for adverse impacts.

As the highways authority and flood risk authority for Warwickshire, we are statutory consultees for all planning applications. Other services feed into the planning application process. We may provide an objection if appropriate mitigation can't be provided.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) as the planning authority

We are a major provider of services and have some strategic planning responsibilities, and are the minerals and waste planning authority. We are responsible for the statutory plan-making and determining planning applications. Find out more about our responsibilities.
