Effect of transport proposals on journey times

  • An initial assessment of the effect of the measures had been undertaken using a traffic model developed for the Birmingham Road corridor.
  • The assessment looked at average journey times forecast in 2023 and compares a ‘do nothing’ scenario with the proposals being taken forward at the time.
  • A series of further assessments have taken place to examine the validity of the proposals against the backdrop in changes of travel behaviours following the Covid-19 pandemic and reductions in background traffic and growth in the area. Whilst the fundamentals of the scheme remain, some works, such as the road widening on the upper section, can now be projected to beyond 2031.
  • A staged approach to the assessment has been undertaken, with the best performing proposal at each stage being taken forward. This is detailed below:
