Key dates and activities for those without an EHCP
Autumn term (children in year 6)
Throughout the autumn term secondary schools hold open days which are open to parents and carers and pupils in years 5 and 6.
1 September
Admissions - parents and carers portal opens for secondary (year 7) applications.
Deadline - 31 October
Deadline extended until 31 December for those moving house.
Spring term
1 March
National offer day for children applying for a secondary school place (year 7).You have until 15th March to accept your offer.
April
Primary school teachers complete the pupil transition form for relevant pupils and pass on to the secondary school/setting.
Summer term
During July
Schools organise a transition evening/open day for children and young people and their parents and carers to support successful transitions.
Pass on any information/folders to the new school, such as the child’s SEND files or safeguarding file.
Autumn term
A post-transfer meeting (could be virtual) to be held between the primary/secondary school to discuss initial transition, successes, and challenges.
