Food banks

Food banks provide emergency food, other essentials and compassionate support to people who are struggling with the cost of living. Food banks can often provide other essential services on-site such as help with finances. Food banks operate across Warwickshire.

Non-perishable, in-date food is donated by the public at a range of places, such as schools, churches and supermarkets. There will be a minimum of three days’ nutritionally balanced, tinned and dried food in a food parcel. Parcels can also contain toiletries, nappies and other non-essential items. Some food banks also have a fresh and chilled section.

Always try to collect the food if you can – it doesn’t have to be you, you can ask someone else to collect it for you. If it is not possible to collect a food parcel a delivery service is available at selected food banks.

Most of the food banks in Warwickshire are operated by the Trussell Trust. The Trussel Trust work with local agencies who can provide you with a food voucher and put you in touch with other agencies who can support you. Local agencies include Citizens Advice, housing support officers, children’s centres, health visitors, social services, local charities and the Family Information Service. You then bring your voucher to your nearest food bank centre where you can get a warm drink whilst you wait and receive non-judgemental support.

Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme and Household Support Fund

The Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme helps our most vulnerable residents at times of unavoidable crisis when they have no other means of help. They help people access items necessary for day-to-day living which includes food, energy and water. They prioritise help for those who may not be eligible for other support.

Warwickshire Welfare Scheme also run the Household Support Fund in Warwickshire. This is money the Government has made available to support families and individuals with the cost of living. The Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme distribute this funding to eligible families and individuals. For eligible families this is usually through HUGGG vouchers.

Donate to your local foodbank

Food banks rely on the generosity and goodwill of local people and welcome donations of food and essential non-food items. Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks is donated by the public, so your donation is vital.

BanktheFood is a food bank app that links with local food banks to let people know what food and other essential items food banks require whilst they are shopping. This is an efficient way for food banks to receive what is most needed and avoid waste.
