Out of court disposals are measures used to address an offence without the need for formal court proceedings. These options aim to provide swift and effective resolutions while avoiding the potential negative impacts of a court appearance. Here are the main types of out of court disposals available:
- Community Resolutions: Community Resolutions are informal agreements between the young person and the victim, often facilitated by the police. They are typically used for minor offences and may involve an apology, compensation, or community service. This option focuses on restorative justice, helping the young person understand the impact of their actions and make amends.
- Youth Caution: A Youth Caution is a formal warning given by the police to a young person who admits to an offence. It is recorded on the police system but does not result in a criminal record. Youth Cautions are used for first-time or low-level offences and may include conditions such as attending a rehabilitation program or meeting Warwickshire Youth Justice.
- Youth Conditional Caution: Similar to a Youth Caution, a Youth Conditional Caution includes specific conditions that the young person must meet. These conditions are designed to address the underlying causes of their behaviour and prevent reoffending. Failure to comply with the conditions can result in the case being referred to court.

Outcome 22 allows Warwickshire Youth Justice Service to work with the police to divert children from formal prosecution, enabling early intervention and support. Outcome 22 does not require an admission of guilt or acceptance of responsibility.
Out of court disposals are an essential part of the youth justice system, offering a balanced approach that holds young people accountable while providing opportunities for rehabilitation and positive change. By addressing the root causes of offending behaviour and involving victims in the process, these measures help to reduce reoffending and promote community safety.
