School Led Tuition Plan 2023-24

One to one tuition is highlighted by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) as a high impact intervention.

For 2023-24 Warwickshire Virtual School expects that all children in care should have the opportunity to access 15 hours tuition from Equal Education. This will be provided in addition to any tuition by school staff.

Where Virtual School tuition is used, each child’s school is the lead partner. Schools will be notified at the end of the preceding term of the children for whom they need to set up tuition and the Virtual School will send the referral forms to them. Schools will complete the referral form and link with tutors to share information. Equal Education will provide assessment information and report on progress to both schools and the Virtual School.

Virtual School Tuition Focus

  • Autumn term - Y5,6,10,11
  • Spring term - Y1,2,7,8
  • Summer term - Y3,4,9

Entitlement to Tuition

All children in the care of Warwickshire will be offered 1:1 tuition by Equal Education, regardless of ability or learning needs.

The primary aim of this tuition is to support children to achieve the expected standard at the end of each Key Stage in reading, writing/English and maths. Where children are already on track to achieve at least the expected standard, they may choose the subject for tuition to enable them to excel.

Focus Detail

  • Years 1 and 2 will prioritise phonics and reading.
  • Years 3 - 6 will prioritise reading.
  • Years 7- 11 will prioritise English or maths.
  • Where a child is achieving ARE in English and maths, child and school choose a subject.

In order to increase their life chances, it is essential that children in care are supported to catch up and keep up with their peers, particularly in:

  • Phonics
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • English
  • Maths
