Information for social workers

The Education Adviser linked to each child can be found on the ePEP or by emailing virtualschool@warwickshire.gov.uk.

School moves and admissions

The Virtual School must be consulted before any school move is considered.

Admissions for school places vary slightly according to local authority and the correct procedure must be followed to avoid delays.

Education, health and care plans (EHCPs)

Annual reviews need to be arranged by education settings. The local authority in which the child resides is responsible for ensuring that needs are being met, except in the case of 52-week placements where the responsibility is retained by Warwickshire.

PEP reviews

Designated teachers take the lead for PEP reviews but social workers need to be present and ensure that termly reviews take place.
Access to the ePEP system and individual records is administered by the Virtual School.

Education Advice for Children with a Social Worker (CWSW)

Virtual school has a strategic leadership role in promoting the educational outcomes of children aged 0-18 across all education settings:

  • for children with a social worker (CWSW) who have an open CiN or CP plan due to safeguarding or welfare reasons
  • for children who have previously had a social worker (Ever-6 CWSW) who have had an open CiN or CP plan in the last 6 years due to safeguarding or welfare reasons
  • for children in formal kinship care arrangements

Professionals supporting CWSW can access educational information and advice from our education adviser sharonharris@warwickshire.gov.uk

Our adviser offers drop-in sessions a social care bases monthly to offer face-to-face information and advice.
