Compulsory School Age

Children in Warwickshire usually start school in the Reception class in the September after their fourth birthday. However, Compulsory School Age (CSA) in England is defined as the term after a child’s fifth birthday. This is based on a three-term academic year, with terms starting in September (Autumn term), January (Spring term) and April (Summer term).

Parents/carers have a legal right to make the decision that their child will not start school until they reach CSA.
