As a home care provider, our Caregivers are on the road every day, so driving safely is a key part of their role. We worked with the Road Safety Officer at Warwickshire County Council to develop our driving for work policy, create practical guidance on vehicle checks, and better understand our responsibilities around licence checks. He also linked us with others in the sector, including supporting conversations around older people driving safely and recognising when it may be time to stop.
What stood out was his practical knowledge and how clearly he explained things. Through the work we did together, he helped highlight risks our Caregivers might not have been aware of, including potential fines and penalties. He’s easy to contact and always willing to help when we need clarity. As a result, our Caregivers now have a much better understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe when driving for work.

We have had Shaun from the Warwickshire Road Safety Education Team, conduct road safety presentations to employees on two separate occasions. One to operational drivers of commercial vehicles at a Safety Stand Down event, the other as part of road safety week to office staff with private vehicles. On each occasion the delivery and content were exceptional, with members of staff taking something away from each.
