Driving for work

Driving for work refers to any driving activity undertaken by an employee in the course of their employment. This includes journeys made for work purposes, such as attending meetings, visiting clients, or travelling between sites.

It applies to both company vehicles, provided by the employer, and private vehicles used for business purposes (known as Grey Fleet), with the crucial exception of commuting to and from a regular workplace.

What is included in "Driving for Work"?

  • Work-related journeys: Driving to meetings, client sites, training sessions, or events. 
  • Errands: Completing tasks for the company, such as collecting supplies or picking up a client.
  • Multi-site travel: Driving between different work locations during the day. 
  • Company or private vehicles: It covers the use of vehicles provided by the company or a vehicle owned by the employee that is used for business, and for which the employee may be reimbursed for mileage. 

What is not included

  • Commuting: Driving from your home to your normal place of work is generally not considered "driving for work".
