Warwickshire County Council demonstrates it environmentally friendly credentials with it's Environmental Management System receiving a further 3-year re-accreditation.
After a 2-day assessment by the British Standards Institute (BSI), Warwickshire County Council’s Environmental Management System has been once again certified to the internal standard ISO 14001 standard. This provides assurance that the System is robust and effective. The Council is one of only a handful of councils in England to have an Environmental Management System in place and has held this accreditation since 2008.
The Environmental Management System supports the Council in managing the environmental impacts and risks associated with offering services to residents and helps to determine the areas for potential improvement. Following on from the declaration of Warwickshire County Council’s climate change emergency in 2019, it provides a way of tracking and reporting progress against various environmental performance requirements.
Heather Timms, the Portfolio holder for Environment and Heritage & Culture, said: “Having the Environmental Management System in place means we have the data and information needed to decide where to put our efforts to meet our climate change objectives. Having the System once again certified is a great reflection on the team who have worked very hard this year on what is a complex and wide-ranging piece of work.”
One of the current environmental projects that Warwickshire residents can access is the Government's Green Homes Grant, which gives homeowners and landlords the opportunity to apply for a voucher towards the cost of installing energy-efficient and low-carbon heating improvements to their homes.
Residents can also join Warwickshire Switch and Save for free, which is a collective energy switch to help residents save money on their energy bills whilst switching to providers who offer 100% of green energy.
