The Warwickshire Preschool Neurodevelopmental Service is responsible for the assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children between the ages of two and five. Rise neurodevelopment service for children and young people
CAMHS is a term many people are familiar with. It stands for children and adolescent mental health services.
Rise provides this service in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Rise brings together a range of emotional wellbeing and mental health services for children and young people. Each service is led by mental health specialists. Rise provides one front door, through its navigation hub, to help you find the right service at the right time.
The Neurodevelopment Service is a specialist service responsible for the assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders. These include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyspraxia (DCD). The service was designed to meet the needs of children and young people with these disorders. They may, or may not have, associated learning disabilities or mental health concerns. The service aims to work with individual needs in a holistic way, which means looking at the strengths and difficulties of the whole person, including their social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Referral is usually made by the child or young person’s educational setting, with parental consent. However, it can also be made via your GP or another health professional.
Parents and carers can also access early help and support in the community. This can be through booking a one-to-one telephone appointment with a Rise clinician and/or booking on a free workshop to address an area of concern.

Adult neurodevelopmental service
It is not uncommon for people to have grown up without their condition being recognised by themselves or others. Sometimes, when adults become parents, they recognise similarities between their children’s struggles and their own. It is not too late to get support or an assessment if you think you may be neurodivergent.
Going through the assessment process can give you, your family and friends a better understanding of your style and abilities. It can help you understand your differences and access support to manage any difficulties you may experience. A diagnosis can also help you claim relevant benefits if needed.
The adult neurodevelopmental service is an assessment and diagnostic service for people with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD. You would be eligible for this service if you are registered with a GP in Coventry or Warwickshire, are over 17 years of age, have no known learning disability and are not currently under the care of Acute or Community Mental Health Services.
Please speak to your GP who can refer you to the adult neurodevelopmental service. You will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire as part of the referral process.

Waiting for assessment
Waiting for assessment can be a difficult time for all the family. Whilst waiting times are dropping, it can still take time between being placed on the assessment list and getting an appointment.
Whilst you are waiting, it helps to build up your knowledge of neurodiversity and how you can support yourself or your child/young person. The following links and resources may be able to help:

- Community Autism Support Service (CASS) is open to children and young people aged 7-18 who are on the waiting list for assessment, as well as to young adults and those aged 18+.
