About the service

Two people having a conversation

The service with responsibility for strategic asset management plays a key role in delivering the council’s priority outcomes as set out in the Council Plan. It is vital that the council has the right assets in the right place to deliver the best possible outcomes for residents and to support growth of the Warwickshire economy.

That’s why the service is positioned at the heart of the council supporting all aspects of service delivery from children and families, to adults, economic growth, climate change and the Fire and Rescue Service.

Warwickshire has a strong portfolio of assets however, as a council we need to ensure that those assets are working hard for us, helping to deliver our services in the most efficient way possible. We know that following the pandemic our need for office space is reducing and there are opportunities to rationalise our portfolio. We have ambitious plans around climate change and Levelling Up for the county and our assets will play a key role in these areas. We have established a newly formed Warwickshire Property and Development Group company which also has ambitious plans for housing and the development of employment land across the county. We have a significant education capital programme to deliver over the next five to ten years to ensure that there are sufficient educational places to meet the housing growth demands across the county. We also have a large small holdings portfolio which we are keen to maintain in and invest in as future opportunities arise.

The Service sits within the council’s wider Governance and Policy team which includes Legal Services, Communications, Corporate Policy and HROD – and provides strategic advice to the council. We organise our property function into two separate elements; the strategic asset management – which is where this role sits, and delivery which is led by a separate service lead. It is critical that the two roles work collaboratively to deliver the council’s property needs and you will be expected to build strong and collaborative working relationships with colleagues working in delivery.

All this means that no day will be the same and you will have an exciting and wide-ranging role which helps the council to ensure that its strategic asset management is both adaptive to the changing environment and fit for the future.
