We are committed to supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable transport future. As part of this commitment, we have developed our Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Strategy 2017-2026 (PDF, 1MB), which sets out our plans to increase the number of EVs in Warwickshire and to improve the availability of charging infrastructure.

The government has set a target of banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, and this will require a significant increase in the number of EVs on our roads. We are playing our part by supporting the delivery of widespread and accessible public charge points throughout the county, making it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles.

Our EV Strategy includes a number of key actions, including:

  • Increasing the number of public charging points in Warwickshire. We will work with partners to install more charging points in a variety of locations, including in car parks, on streets, and at workplaces.
  • Educating people about EVs. We will work to raise awareness of the benefits of EVs and to help people understand how to charge them.
  • Encourage staff at the council to adopt EVs for their personal vehicles, and support teams to procure EV vehicles as part of our fleet.

We are also committed to reviewing our EV Infrastructure strategy regularly to ensure that it remains up to date. As we approach the end of our current strategy, we are beginning to review it to ensure it is fit for purpose. We want to ensure that future EV infrastructure in Warwickshire is delivered in a way that is sustainable and that benefits all residents and businesses.
