The Hearing Team is a team of Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and Specialist Teaching Assistants.  One of the teachers is a qualified Educational Audiologist.

What we do:

  • Respond promptly to new referrals of any age supporting at home, pre-school settings and all schools
  • Encourage language development
  • Encourage listening skills
  • Work with all children and young people to meet their unique needs
  • Assess needs and monitor progress
  • Work closely with all professionals and families involved
  • Encourage use of hearing aids for maximum benefit
  • Families and schools are offered training in Sign Language, Language Development and the use of hearing aids
  • Assess and make recommendations to improve the listening environment
  • Signpost families and professionals to various organisations that may be able to help
  • Give families information to help them make choices for their child
  • Help the child or young person’s friend and classmates to understand the needs of the child
  • Treat all information with confidentiality

Who can refer to our Service?

If you are caring for or are working with a Child or Young Person you think may require the input of the Hearing Team but are unsure as to how to proceed or whether they will meet the criteria please contact us first to discuss the situation and to receive advice as to whether a referral is required.

Referral Pathways

All requests for assessments are made on the same system, ensuring that the teachers, social workers etc. from IDS working with the CYP will be aware of who else is currently working with them and what the background has been.

Referring a child

If you are: Parents/Carers; Schools; Early Years settings; Health professionals other than Hospital Audiologists or Consultant ENT Surgeons

  1. Call either IDS office – Saltisford 01926 413737 or 01926 413 777 and follow the prompts to make a referral. You will be asked some straightforward questions concerning the referral and the details will be entered onto the referral system and passed to the relevant specialist team. Please be aware that if you are not the parent or carer of the CYP you will be asked to confirm that you have gained their consent for the referral.
     
  2. Email the IDS team at idsteachingandlearning@warwickshire.gov.uk
     
  3. Write to either IDS office at the following addresses:

You will then be contacted by a member of the team to get more information to help identify whether the referral meets criteria and discuss what action will be taken.

On a referral a member of the team will speak with the family to discuss the problems the child or young person is having and offer a visit into school to assess the situation. All children and young people with hearing aids are supported according to criteria.
