The Disability Register is a voluntary list kept by Warwickshire County Council. It collects information on children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN) in Warwickshire. The register gathers basic information about the child, including their specific needs and any additional support they may require. This information helps the council to understand the demographics and needs of the community better.

Why should you join the Disability Register?

Joining the Disability Register offers several benefits:

  • The information collected helps the council allocate resources and funding more effectively by understanding the specific needs of children with disabilities. The council can then ensure that support and services are directed to the areas where they are most needed.
  • The data from the register allows the council to tailor and shape services to better meet the needs of the community. This can lead to the development of new programmes and initiatives that directly benefit children with disabilities and their families.
  • By joining the register, you contribute to a broader understanding of the community's needs, which can influence policy decisions and the development of future services.
  • When you join the register, you have the option to subscribe to various newsletters. These newsletters provide updates on news, events, and resources relevant to children with disabilities and their families. If you prefer not to receive these updates, you can opt out at any time.

Who can join the Disability Register?

The disability register is open to children and young people who meet the following criteria:

  • Children and young people ages 0 to 25. If the young person is aged between 16 and 18 consent may need to be given.
  • Living in Warwickshire.
  • The child or young person has a disability, special educational needs or a health condition that affects their daily lives.

What are your rights as a parent, carer or young person?

Under the Children Act 1989, all councils are required to maintain a Disability Register. However, completing the register is entirely voluntary.

You can request to have your child's details removed from the register at any time using our opt-out form.
