Toilet training

Toilet training is a significant milestone for both children and parents. Toilet training and using a potty is a new skill for your child to learn, it's best to take it slowly and go at your child's pace. Being patient with them will help them get it right, even if you sometimes feel frustrated.

The NHS provide advice on how to potty train and potty training problems. Eric, The Children’s Bowel and Bladder Charity also provide advice on potty training including how and when to start, along with help if your child has additional needs, and support for children and young people who have bowel and bladder conditions.

Hygiene

Between the ages of three and five, it's also important to teach your child to wash their hands and wash themselves independently so that they gain:

  • Good hygiene habits
  • Self-confidence
  • A sense of responsibility
