Carer Assessments
Carers of all ages can ask for a carers assessment. This is a conversation where you can tell us about your caring role and any impact it has on you physically, mentally and in terms of you being able to do the things you want to do. It can cover
- your role as a carer
- how you feel about caring
- whether you’re able or willing to carry on as a carer
- your health
- your work and education
- other caring responsibilities
- what you enjoy doing in your free time
- planning for emergencies
We can then look at ways of supporting you. There are lots of different types of support you could be entitled to, including:
- practical help with housework or gardening jobs
- training to help you with your caring role, for example in moving and handling the person you care for
- equipment or alterations to your home
- emotional support
- breaks from caring, such as respite care for the person you care for
- advice about benefits
- support to improve your wellbeing
Asking for an assessment
Adult carers and young carers (who support an adult) can request an assessment via the Caring Together Warwickshire service. Please visit the website or call 0800 197 5544 for information and advice.
Mental health carers service
In addition to Caring Together Warwickshire, our Mental Health Carer Workers offer a specialist support service to adult carers who are caring for a person who is experiencing a severe and enduring mental disorder and in receipt of support from secondary mental health services delivered by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust. To access this support please talk to the person’s mental health worker.
Parent Carers
A 'parent carer' is a person aged 18 or over who provides or intends to provide care for a disabled child that they have parental responsibility for.
If your child under 18 has a disability, you might not see yourself as a parent carer, but recognizing this role can be important to access the support you and your family may need.
Information on support for parent carers and how to access an assessment can be found on our Parent Carer Support Pathway pages.
