Documents the registrar will give you

  • A Certificate for Burial or Cremation (green form) - this can be sent electronically to the funeral director so that the funeral can take place, or it can be given to the informant to deliver personally. In some circumstances, the coroner would issue this.
  • A Certificate of Registration of Death (form BD8/344) - this is for DWP (Dept of Work and Pensions) purposes. The registrar will advise further on this form.
  • Death certificates will be available to purchase during your appointment, they cost £11.00 each. Additional copies are also available at a later date if needed, they can be purchased online, still at £11.00. These may be required by banks, building societies, solicitors or for pension claims and some insurance claims.
  • Tell Us Once (TUO) service - the registrar will be able to provide a reference number allowing access to use the Tell Us Once service, once the death has been registered. The service allows you to report the death to lots of central and local government departments (such as DWP for state pension, HMRC for tax) in one go. GOV.UK - Tell Us Once
