Jan Cumming - Senior Solicitor and Team Lead Commercial and Contracts

Joining WLS in 2017, Jan first qualified as a solicitor in New Zealand in 2003 and then in Australia in 2005. She built up an extensive experience in dispute resolution and public administration law during roles with the New Zealand and Australian Governments, private practice, and the United Nations Joint Staff Pensions team.

In her role as Team Leader and Senior Solicitor for the Commercial and Contracts she advises Warwickshire County Council and its external clients on a wide range of commercial and public law matters, including procurement, contracts and commercial law, projects, trading powers, corporate structures, governance, subsidy control, shared services, pensions, information law, and disputes.

 

Paul Fairweather

Paul Fairweather - Senior Solicitor and Team Lead Commercial and Contracts

Paul qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and joined Warwickshire County Council in July 2005 from DLA Piper. Paul advises a wide range of clients on major projects and commercial contracts.  Paul has developed expertise in:

  • NEC3 contracts, ECC, TSC, PSC and the framework contract
  • Data Protection,
  • IT contracts,
  • TUPE, and Local Government Pension Scheme issues in the context of outsourcing,
  • Corporate governance
  • Complex collaborative procurements.

Commercial and Contracts Team

The team provides legal support and project management expertise in respect of all Warwickshire County Council’s commercial arrangements, from the smallest of contracts to multi million pound deals. The team has close working ties with the district and borough councils in Warwickshire as well as advising other local authorities and statutory bodies.

The team has extensive experience in contract law and local government law and has a long history of undertaking cutting edge work on behalf of the Council.
