What to expect when you apply for the scheme

When you apply to become a sponsor under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, several checks will be completed to ensure that Ukrainian guests will be safe and well supported in your home.

Accommodation checks

Your local district or borough council will carry out an accommodation check before guests arrive. This is to ensure that the property is suitable and safe. If you are unsure who is responsible for your home, please see the Find your local council page.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

All sponsors and household members aged 16 or over must complete an enhanced DBS check (or a status check if already subscribed to the Update Service). This is required to confirm eligibility and to ensure the safety of guests coming to live in the UK.

Welfare home visits

Once your guests have arrived, a welfare home visit will be arranged by the Homes for Ukraine support team. These visits take place within three weeks of arrival.

During the visit:

  • All guests and the host should be present where possible.
  • The visit will last around one hour.
  • Guests will receive information about the support available and how to access it.
  • Sponsors can discuss house rules and ask questions about the scheme.

To avoid delays, please inform us as soon as your guest arrives so we can schedule the visit promptly.

If you have any questions, please contact the team on 0800 408 1447 or ukraine@warwickshire.gov.uk

Changes in your circumstances

If your situation as a sponsor changes (for example, you can no longer host, your guest is not arriving, or the number of guests changes), please update or withdraw your application online. You can also inform the team when they contact you.
