What it looks like

Measuring around 4 by 2.9 metres and nearly four metres high you will be able to sit, stand or walk around this piece and explore the views and shapes from different angles. This playful structure consists of a hexagonal type shape in wood and metal over a platform.

What it's about

Polesworth’s ‘You belong here’ makes a visual connection between the canal, the park and the bridge into town. It invites people to look around and through it. It encourages conversation and reflection about what is unique to the town.

It’s designed to look a little alien and bright, to invoke a sense of curiosity and playfulness, invite exploration and create a more interesting environment.

How it was made

This piece is constructed using a combination of wood and steel.  A steel frame creates the structures which is filled by a series of interesting, digitally cut shapes and patterns.

How the artist describes it

The artist describes this piece as a colourful alien creation, uniquely weird and not designed to fit in. Appealing to the natural sensory seeker, the intention was to create an object that invited playful sensory exploration. The different materials used throughout the structure have been chosen to provide a variety of tactile experiences. The overall form is designed to be entirely non-prescriptive in how to ‘correctly’ engage with it, enabling and encouraging a disruption of the ways in which one might normally engage with public structures and spaces.

What will happen next

The artist, Edie Jo Murray and the project team is currently developing ideas in collaboration with Ruby Road (Stratford We Shadows) which will explore the meaning of home and belonging. This project will enable young people to link to existing trails and stories of Polesworth.
