What can we do?

Road Safety Education and Warwickshire Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams are working with schools to encourage safe and legal parking focussing on:

  • Parking away from school gates
  • Keeping clear of yellow zig-zag markings, school entrances, dropped kerbs, junctions and residents’ driveways

We are keen for schools, parents and the local community to join us and help make our schools safer by encouraging safe and considerate parking.

Pupil Power

Encourage pupils to design posters to raise awareness of the issues of caused by unsafe and inconsiderate parking. These posters could be temporarily displayed and shared on the school’s website, and via newsletters and social media.

Park and Stride

Encouraging families to travel actively and sustainably to school or a safe and suitable location a minimum of 5 minutes’ walk from the school will help to reduce congestion and improve safety around the school gates.

Car sharing

This could be an informal arrangement between friends or a more formal arrangement managed via a database (perhaps administered by the PTA or governors).

Community forums

Parking issues are frequently raised at community forum meetings which in many cases are then investigated further by the partners.
