A Facebook live Rhyme Time session is just one of the exciting new activities that Libraries and Heritage & Culture in Warwickshire are bringing to the county’s residents online next week (w/c 27th April).
Warwickshire County Council staff are developing and delivering lots of amazing activities that people can take part in at home as lockdown continues, so residents can still enjoy libraries and museums even though their buildings are closed.
At 10am on Monday (27th April) morning, visit the Warwickshire Libraries Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/warwickshirelibraries/) to take part in a brilliant live Rhyme Time session, with songs and rhymes perfect for 0 to 2 year old children, their parents and carers.
The popular session, which normally takes place in library buildings across the county, will be brought to you by Emily from Warwickshire Libraries, who will be hosting the Facebook live event.
Young children can also take part in Arty Tots from Home on Monday! Join in games, songs and crafts you can easily do at home with your under 5s. Monday’s theme is ‘ROAR! Dinosaurs’ – ideal for budding palaeontologists! Visit http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/arty-tots-at-home/.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunch time at 12.30pm, join Warwickshire Libraries on Twitter (@warkslibraries) for a book-themed #LunchtimeLibraryChat. Monday’s theme is ‘Who is the best superhero?’, Wednesday’s theme is ‘If each genre was a biscuit, what biscuit would it be?’ and on Friday we’re inviting people to share their weekend reading plans.
On Monday there will also be a new weekly Warwickshire Libraries update newsletter published including all the up-to-the-minute news on online library services. Sign up to receive the weekly update at https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/keepmeposted.
On Tuesday (28th April), discover what the Heritage and Culture Warwickshire team are working on from home on their website at http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/workingfromhome/. Each week, a different member of the team will be sharing information on what they are working on while the museums and archives buildings are shut.
Look out for the publication of a fresh book review from a member of libraries staff on Facebook ~ which may give you some inspiration for what to borrow next week from Warwickshire’s online library service, BorrowBox, which you can access for free at https://library.warwickshire.gov.uk.
All you require are your library card number and email address. If you’re not already a member, you can join online. Hundreds of people already have in recent weeks!
There will also be a cool new library blog published at https://librariesblog.warwickshire.gov.uk, which will be written by a guest 10-year-old blogger who will be sharing their BorrowBox suggestions!
On Wednesday (29th April), ‘Warwickshire Museum in your Home’ will bring to you a taste of the events they would usually hold in their museums at this time of year. This week’s exciting theme is ‘Dinosaurs’ - find out about the dinosaur artefacts in the museum collections and get crafty with some artistic activity ideas to do at home. Visit http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/warwickshire-museum-in-your-home/.
On Thursday (30th April), there will be another interesting library blog published at https://librariesblog.warwickshire.gov.uk, this time discussing this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction, which was announced this week.
You can also meet the Heritage & Culture Warwickshire team! Every week, get to know a member of staff and find out about their work role, their favourite archive or article, and additional thought-provoking facts! Go to http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/meet-the-hcw-team/.
On Friday (1st May), take part in a digital ‘Show and Tell’ as curators and archivists in Heritage and Culture share a talk with you on YouTube, so you can learn about the Warwickshire archives and museum collections from home. This week’s historic theme is ‘The disappearing dwelling of Stretton on Dunsmore’. Visit http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/show-and-tell-from-home/.
Then at 6pm on Friday, join in with a fantastic Facebook live Story Time session, with the theme of ‘Pyjamarama’, suitable for all the family! Get your pyjamas on ready to enjoy a live story-telling session with Warwickshire Libraries at https://www.facebook.com/warwickshirelibraries/.
On Saturday (2nd May), discover the stories of ‘Our Warwickshire’ with a virtual quiz, where your family can answer questions about history, heritage and the natural environment by going through the pages of the Our Warwickshire website. The website contains thousands of photos, stories, memories, and maps uploaded by local people, museums and archives. Go to http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/our-warwickshire-quiz-from-home/.
Also on Saturday, there’s no need for families to miss out on the entertainment provided by the popular Lego Clubs that are usually held in Warwickshire’s libraries, as they can take part in a new Facebook Lego Challenge at home every week. Like and follow the Warwickshire Libraries Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/warwickshirelibraries/ and check every Saturday morning for this week’s challenge!
Last of all, on Sunday (3rd May), it’s the ‘Where in Warwickshire?’ challenge. Track the clues on social media to a Warwickshire landmark or place, which will be shared on the Warwickshire Archive Twitter account @Chambearlin.
