Although Warwickshire’s museum and library buildings are closed as a result of Covid-19, staff are working hard behind the scenes to provide lots of online activities so people can still enjoy libraries and museums from home.
This week (w/c 13th April), find out what the Heritage and Culture Warwickshire team are working on from home on their website at http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/workingfromhome/. Each week, a different member of the team will be sharing information on what they are working on while the museums and archives buildings are closed.
Look out for the publication of a new book review from a member of libraries staff, which may give you some inspiration for what to borrow this week from Warwickshire’s digital library service, BorrowBox, which you can access for free at https://library.warwickshire.gov.uk. All you need are your library card number and email address. If you’re not already a member, you can join online. Hundreds of people already have in recent weeks!
There will also be a brand new library blog published at https://librariesblog.warwickshire.gov.uk and a new weekly update newsletter including all the latest news on new digital library services, such as virtual story time sessions. Sign up to receive the weekly update at https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/keepmeposted.
Every weekday lunch time at 12.30pm, join Warwickshire Libraries on Twitter and Facebook for a book-themed #LunchtimeLibraryChat. Themes this week include your favourite book from the past and a haiku poetry challenge: to write and share a haiku on reading, books and the world in general on Friday, which is Haiku Poetry Day. Follow Warwickshire Libraries on Twitter at @warkslibraries and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/warwickshirelibraries/.
On Wednesday, ‘Warwickshire Museum in your Home’ will bring to you a taste of the events they would normally hold in their museums at this time of year. This week’s theme is ‘Terrific Toys’! Visit http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/warwickshire-museum-in-your-home/.
On Thursday, meet the Heritage & Culture Warwickshire team! Each week, get to know a member of staff and find out about their job role, their favourite archive or object and other interesting facts! Go to http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/meet-the-hcw-team/.
On Friday, take part in a virtual ‘Show and Tell’ as curators and archivists in Heritage and Culture share a talk with you on YouTube, so you can discover the Warwickshire archives and museum collections from home. Visit http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/show-and-tell-from-home/.
On Saturday, discover the stories of ‘Our Warwickshire’ with an online quiz, where your family can answer questions about history, heritage and the natural environment by going through the pages of the Our Warwickshire website. The website contains thousands of photos, stories, memories, and maps uploaded by local people, museums and archives. Go to http://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/our-warwickshire-quiz-from-home/.
Also on Saturday, there’s no need for families to miss out on the fun of the popular Lego Clubs that are usually held in Warwickshire’s libraries, as they can take part in a brand new Facebook Lego Challenge at home every week. Like and follow the Warwickshire Libraries Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/warwickshirelibraries/ and check every Saturday morning for this week’s challenge!
Finally, on Sunday, it’s the ‘Where in Warwickshire?’ challenge. Follow the clues on social media to a Warwickshire landmark or place, which will be shared on the Warwickshire Archive Twitter account @Chambearlin.
