Warwickshire County Council is open for business and we are working hard to keep our services running smoothly. However, staff shortages due to Covid-19 have resulted in the reduction in the number of recycling centres that can be safely kept open.
As a result, the following three sites in the county have had to close:
- Burton Farm, Stratford-upon-Avon
- Cherry Orchard, Kenilworth
- Shipston
Meanwhile we are working hard to keep our three main sites open:
- Princes Drive, Leamington
- Hunters Lane, Rugby
- Lower House Farm, Atherstone
These sites are also used by our district and borough councils and have a commercial waste provision.
Three other sites are operated by contractors and are also currently open:
- Judkins, Nuneaton
- Wellesbourne
- Stockton - Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays only.
Councillor Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Environment, Heritage & Culture said:
“We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on residents. Closing three sites will put additional pressure on the sites remaining open, so we are asking residents to please consider if a trip to a recycling centre at this time is necessary."
In order to try and reduce customer and staff risk of exposure to the Covid-19 virus, staff will be keeping a safe distance from visitors whilst giving advice and working on site. Please sort your waste and recycling at home and be prepared to deposit your materials while keeping a safe distance from staff and other visitors.
If you are in a household with confirmed, or possible Covid-19 infection, only 'personal waste' (such as used tissues or masks) and disposable cleaning cloths should be treated differently. These must be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into a second bag, tied securely and kept separate from all other waste for a period of 72 hours, before putting into your usual black/grey wheelie bin. As usual, all other waste, recycling, food and garden waste can be placed in your normal wheelie bins.
Please be aware that it may be necessary to temporarily close other waste recycling centres at short notice.
The Warwickshire County Council website will be updated regularly with any new information, so please keep an eye out for updates: https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/recyclingcentres
