Fair chance employer

More than 100 Warwickshire businesses have pledged to create more inclusive workplaces and become Fair Chance Employers through Warwickshire County Council's Skills Hub.

The Fair Chance Employer programme helps businesses make recruitment and employment more accessible, creating opportunities for people who may face barriers to finding or staying in work. Through practical support, guidance and recognition, employers can build inclusive workplaces while benefiting from a diverse and talented workforce.

The programme recognises businesses that are taking positive steps to make employment and recruitment more accessible and inclusive. Recognising that every organisation is at a different stage of its journey, employers can work towards three levels of recognition: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

The Bronze level is aimed at employers beginning their Fair Chance journey and demonstrates a commitment to fair and inclusive employment practices.

Silver recognition is awarded to employers who can demonstrate inclusive practices within their organisation, for example, they offer work trials to individuals looking to experience different roles in the workplace.

Gold is the highest level of recognition and celebrates organisations where Fair Chance principles are well established. Employers will have employed a person through the Fair Chance jobs portal and made adjustments in the workplace to support them.

Jennifer Harrison, People and Culture Manager at Tow-Trust Towbars Ltd, said:

"Becoming a Fair Chance Employer has had a positive impact on our organisation and our team. With support from the Skills Hub, we were able to offer a work trial that led to someone securing employment with us. The process helped us recognise the benefits of inclusive recruitment and showed how small changes can create life-changing opportunities for individuals while bringing valuable skills and perspectives into our business."

Councillor Rob Howard, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Rural Development at Warwickshire County Council, said:

"The Fair Chance Employer programme is about creating opportunities for people who may experience barriers to employment and helping them realise their potential."

"By working closely with businesses across Warwickshire, we are helping more residents gain access to meaningful work, develop their skills and build their confidence. At the same time, employers are benefiting from a wider and more diverse pool of talent.

"It is fantastic to see more than 100 businesses commit to making their workplaces more inclusive and creating opportunities that can make a real difference to people's lives."
