Dance-loving residents from Bedworth and surrounding areas have been tripping the light fantastic thanks to support from the Warwickshire County Council Councillors’ Grant.

Bedworth Dancing Social brings people together for evenings of live music, sequence and line dancing, with sessions taking place every Monday at Bedworth Ex-Service Club.

As well as offering an opportunity to get active and enjoy an evening of dancing, the group provides companionship, helps people make connections and strengthens links within the local community.

The funding helped towards the rent of the room and live music and has secured the future of the group for a further year.

Cllr George Finch, Leader of Warwickshire County Council and local member for Bedworth Central, awarded the group £500 from his allocation of the Warwickshire County Council Councillors’ Grant Fund for 2026/27.  Other County Councillors in the area also contributed from their allocations.

The grant fund enables each of the Council’s 57 county councillors to support projects run by local groups and organisations that benefit their communities.

Cllr Finch said:

“I was absolutely delighted to support this group. It encapsulates so much of what is good about our communities. It brings people together for a few hours, but the benefits last much longer.

“People can have a laugh, enjoy a bit of physical activity and, importantly, connect with others in their community. It’s these connections that help strengthen our communities well beyond the time spent on the dance floor.

“This is a fantastic example of the Councillors’ Grant Fund making a real difference locally.”

Sandra Ibberson of Bedworth Dancing Social, said:  This grant will enable our club to continue our evenings of dancing and listening to live music. Our members come to join us from across the area, bringing likeminded people together to enjoy socialising, exercise and friendship.  All people are welcome, of all abilities, single and married couples. If you cannot dance, some of our dances are easily picked up."

Another member, Julie Green, emphasised how the group benefits quality of life for all involved, improving physical and mental wellbeing.  She said:

"The group is very important to social, physical and mental health. Socialising, learning new dances as well as getting physical exercise contributes to a longer happier life.  The funding now means that our club can continue for the next 12 months without the worry of running out of funds and is a huge lifeline for us. "

Bedworth Dancing Social welcomes dancers of all ages. Sessions take place every Monday from 7.30pm to 10.30pm at Bedworth Ex-Service Club, Sergeant Simon Valentine Way, Bedworth, CV12 8JH.  Admission is £5, with free parking after 6pm.
