This September, Warwickshire County Council is joining forces with cycling platform Love to Ride to promote the benefits of cycling to residents and businesses across the County.

Powered by Love to Ride’s game-changing app, Cycle September has one simple mission: to get more people to enjoy the benefits of riding bikes.

By logging their bike trips on Love to Ride, riders can win great prizes, like £2,000 cash. In last May’s Bike Month Challenge, a Warwickshire resident won the grand prize: a £4000 holiday!

Riders of every level are invited to participate and can ride anywhere, anytime in September - even a 10-minute ride around the park will enter you into the draws. Getting out there in the fresh air and encouraging others is more important than the number of miles you ride.

Workplaces can also unleash their competitive side with our fun and friendly workplace competition. Co-workers can join their workplace profile on Love to Ride and compete to earn the most points and top the client area leaderboard in their size category.

Councillor Stephen Shaw, Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: “Getting more people cycling is about far more than simply getting from A to B. It's about helping residents lead healthier, more active lives, building confidence and giving people greater independence in their everyday journeys.

“For children and young people especially, cycling is an important life skill. It gives them the freedom to travel independently, explore their communities, develop road awareness and build confidence that will stay with them into adulthood.

“Many of us have become reliant on the car for even the shortest trips. By swapping just one car journey a week for a bike ride, residents can improve their health, save money, reduce congestion and discover that active travel can be both practical and enjoyable.

“Cycle September is open to everyone, whether you're getting back on a bike for the first time in years or already cycle regularly. There is no special equipment required and no expectation to ride long distances. Every journey counts.

"We hope this challenge will encourage more Warwickshire residents and families to give cycling a go, learn new skills, enjoy the outdoors and experience the benefits that greater independence and active living can bring."

New for this year, riders can also gain points by rating their routes on the Love to Ride app, sharing feedback on what it's like to ride on local streets. This helps build a better understanding of where people enjoy riding and where improvements could encourage even more people to choose a bike.

How to get involved

Sign up and register for the challenge at: https://www.lovetoride.net/warwickshire

Log your rides using the Love to Ride app. Download the app for Apple or Android devices - you can even turn on auto logging!

Earn points - ride your bike and encourage others to earn points.

More points = more entries into the prize draws.

There are so many benefits to riding a bike: from improved mental and physical well-being to more affordable and efficient travel. Cycle September is all about celebrating each of these benefits and sharing them with the world.

With Warwickshire hosting the final stage of the Women's Tour of Britain, now is the perfect time for residents to get inspired, sign up to Love to Ride and pedal themselves some prizes: https://www.lovetoride.net/warwickshire
