Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are welcoming back the recruitment of a specialist crew of trauma teddies for children.
Trauma teddies are knitted with love by kind volunteers and are used by crews when they are attending incidents when children are present and may be distressed. The idea of the teddy is to provide comfort to the child and help create some calm in an otherwise stressful situation. The new cuddly recruits have been kindly made by the group ‘Ball of Yarn’.
Andy Crump, Portfolio Holder for Fire and Rescue and Community Safety, said:
“I am thrilled that the service is welcoming back trauma teddies and I want to say a big thank you to Ball of Yarn for making them for us.
“The teddies will be riding with our crews as they attend incidents and are a fantastic way to help lessen the impact of the trauma experienced by children at emergency incidents. Our crews understand how upsetting and scary these experiences can be, now they will be able to offer some small comfort in the form of a teddy.”
If you’d like to support Ball of Yarn in the creation of more trauma teddies, you can join them every Monday at Rugby Library between 10am - 12pm. Anyone can join the group, or if you can’t, they’re always looking for more donations of wool.
