Foster Care Fortnight is an important opportunity to raise awareness of the difference foster carers can make to the lives of Warwickshire’s young people in care.
This year’s Foster Care Fortnight focuses on the unique opportunity foster carers have to change a future of young people, helping to provide stability, support and a home environment for Warwickshire’s cared for children.
Foster carer, Kyla Eason, has fostered with Warwickshire County Council for 5 years and is also a member of the Warwickshire Foster Care Association, said:
“I foster because I can provide the safety and nurture that sadly too many young people are in desperate need of.
"Being able to foster means so much to me and gives me the opportunity to help each person at a point in their life when they really need it. Fostering means that you have a chance to make a difference to each person that you support and seeing those changes and improvements bring so much reward and happiness for that person and yourself."
The Warwickshire County Council fostering service is running four information events throughout the fortnight to encourage more people to consider fostering as a career. At each event there will be an opportunity to meet staff from Warwickshire County Council’s fostering service who can provide information on the different types of fostering placements available and answer any questions people may have about fostering.
The event details are as follows:
- 15th May - Alcester Library, drop in event from 10.30am until 12.30pm
- 16th May - Royal Priors shopping center, information event from 10.30am until 3pm
- 21st May - Shipston Library, drop in event from 10am until 12.30pm
- 23rd May - Warwick Library, drop in event from 9.30am until 12pm
Tracy Avill, Operations Manager for Warwickshire County Council Fostering said:
“Warwickshire County Council put children at the heart of everything that we do. We urgently need foster carers to support and nurture our children who are not able to live with their own families. We aim to place our children with Warwickshire foster carers meaning you are always our first choice.
“Foster carers can be single or couples; with or without children, retired, unemployed or working. What matters most is that potential carers have time, space, commitment, patience, a caring nature and skills to work with children and their families. There are different types of fostering available for anyone interested from short or long term placements, respite care for children with disabilities, emergency care or parent and child care.”
Could you make a difference? Come along to one of our information events or make an enquiry. Change your life and a child’s life by taking this first step. If you are already a foster carer and want to transfer, contact us today.
