A number of free sessions are being run for parents, carers and professionals working with children and young people in Nuneaton and Bedworth to help them understand issues including challenging behaviour, self-harm and eating disorders.
With one in four people experiencing a mental illness at some point in their life, Warwickshire County Council is currently highlighting different ways in which people can help themselves and their children to improve their well-being, maintain positive mental health or reduce experiences of low mood and stress.
A free coffee morning and information session for parents and carers - ‘Understanding and managing challenging behaviours in children aged 4 to 12 years old’ - is being held at All Saints Chilvers Coton Parish Hall, Avenue Road, Nuneaton CV11 4NQ on Wednesday 15 May from 9.00am – 11.00am.
The session, which is being provided by RISE – the name for Coventry and Warwickshire’s emotional wellbeing and mental health services for children and young people - will give advice on how to cope with challenging behaviour and provide information on what help is available to support children with their emotions.
It will explain how parents and carers can use the new RISE Dimensions Tool, a free web-based app that can help find support in Warwickshire and give tailored advice so both parent and child can have a better quality of life.
On Wednesday 5 June, a further free coffee morning and information session – ‘Understanding and supporting young people aged 12 - 18 years with self-harm’ – is being held at All Saints Chilvers Coton Parish Hall from 9.00am – 11.00am.
This session will provide advice on how to help a young person cope with feelings of self-harm, explain what self-harm is and some of the reasons why young people self-harm.
Parents and carers should book their free places in advance by emailing risecommunityoffer@covwarkpt.nhs.uk or calling 07917 504682.
Warwickshire’s Primary Mental Health Team is also providing free Mental Health Awareness Workshops for professionals working with children and young people in North Warwickshire.
On Monday 10 June, professionals are invited to The Sackett Room, Jepson House, Mental Health Services, 4 Manor Court, Nuneaton CV11 5HX between 9am – 12pm for a free Eating Disorders Awareness Workshop to consider the definitions and explore the symptoms of an eating disorder.
The session will also help professionals explore risk and protective factors which may impact on eating disorders and explore positive messages and helpful ways to talk about eating disorders using real life case studies. It will also advise on when and how to access specialist services in relation to eating disorders.
Places on the workshop are subject to availability. To book a place on a workshop or to discuss a bespoke workshop, email: Warwickshire.PMHT@covwarkpt.nhs.uk (please include: Name, Role, Agency, Choice of Workshop/Date).
