This September, more than 98 per cent of children in Warwickshire will be attending one of the primary schools named on their parents’ application and 93 per cent their first preference school.
Yesterday, on National Offer Day, parents across the county were notified of their child’s reception school place for entry in September 2019.
Warwickshire Admissions Service received 6,009 on-time applications from parents. Of those, 5,593 were offered a place at their first preference school and 5,853 one of their first three preferences.
These figures are extremely positive and show an increase in the number of children being able to attend their first preference school, rising from 90.8 per cent in 2018 to 93 per cent this year.
The number of on-time applicants receiving a place at one of their preferred schools has gone up by nearly 3 per cent in the last three years, from 95.4 per cent in 2016, to 98.3 per cent this year.
Warwickshire County Council’s Strategic Director for Communities, Mark Ryder, said: “We appreciate that this can be an anxious time for families, so we are pleased this year to be able to offer so many children their first choice of primary school.
“These figures represent a further improvement on last year and, in light of the increasing pressure on primary school places across the country, is excellent news for families across Warwickshire.”
Online applicants will be able to accept their child’s place by logging into the online parent portal, however anyone wanting to decline their offer should email the Admissions Service: admissions@warwickshire.gov.uk. Parents are advised to accept their offer no later than Tuesday, 23 April.
Any children who have not been allocated their first preference will automatically be added to the waiting list for any school listed higher on their application.
Waiting lists for oversubscribed schools have already opened and a series of reallocation rounds will take place during May and June, when waiting lists will be frozen to allow available places to be re-offered. Those who are still not satisfied with their given school will be advised of the appeals procedure and have until 3 June to submit their appeal, to be considered for a place in time for September.
In the meantime, parents are encouraged to accept their place, whatever the outcome of the reallocation rounds, to ensure that their child has a school place for September.
