A funding opportunity is available for innovative community-based initiatives that promote health and wellbeing. The South Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Partnership has made £50,000 available to community and voluntary sector groups under the ‘Healthy South Warwickshire’ grants programme. The partnership brings together representatives from local councils, the National Health Service and the voluntary sector to identify and address local priorities for population health and wellbeing and strengthen community-centred approaches.
Groups can bid for funding from £500 to a maximum of £10,000 per initiative. The bids needs to address the following health and well-being concepts:
- Promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles across all ages
- Promoting mental health and wellbeing, particularly among men, parents and infants and/or children and young people
- Reducing inequalities in health and well-being
- Building social connections and reaching those who are lonely
- Supporting people experiencing financial hardship
- Improving child health, including injury prevention
- Supporting older people's independence, community connections and quality of life for people living with long-term mental or physical health conditions
- Supporting the health and well being of people caring for friends or relatives
- Promoting opportunities for inclusion of marginalised groups.
Warwickshire County Councillor Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health said; “Warwickshire County Council is delighted to support this work, it's a real opportunity to encourage community initiatives to identify specific health needs, which has the potential to make real changes in the health and well-being agenda at local levels".
Priorities for funding allocation have been identified following assessments of health and wellbeing needs for South Warwickshire as a whole and more detailed local assessments.
Warwickshire County Council is currently leading a programme of “Place-based Joint Strategic Needs Assessments” (JSNAs) throughout 2018 and 2019. This work brings together a wide range of data, information and feedback about health and wellbeing outcomes and the factors which influence them, such as housing, education and community cohesion. The Place-based JSNAs will each cover populations of 30,000 to 50,000 and a total of eight assessments will be completed within South Warwickshire. Two areas have been completed to date. Subsequent assessments will inform priorities for future Health South Warwickshire funding rounds.
Further information on the Place-based JSNAs can be found here: Warwickshire JSNA
