Get online week’ which aims to show people how the internet can make their lives easier, takes place this week from 15-21 October.

People are being encouraged to use the internet to find out something they want or need to be able to do.

The campaign is asking people to ‘Try 1 Thing’ on the internet. You might want to trace your family history, see what Facebook is all about, or even start to learn a language.

Or it might be as simple as renewing your library books or checking when the Christmas refuse collections are.

Data from the Office of National Statistics has shown 77% of people aged 65-74 in the UK and 40% of people aged 75+ use the internet at least once a week.

The county council has many services available online. Residents can join the library service and renew books, book an appointment to register a birth or death, report pot holes and faulty street lights, or even book a home fire safety check.

Warwickshire County Councillor Kam Kaur, Portfolio Holder for Customer and Transformation said:  “We can help people get online for the first time. The internet can be a scary place, but once people are supported to take the first step, they will be confident enough to try one more thing, and then another, setting them on the path to regular internet use with all the benefits that this can bring.”
